4 door hardtop (pillarless) Estate stationwagon. Buick produced 4456 Caballero’s in 1958.
The 364 cid (6 liter) Buick nailhead V8 with 300 horsepower and a 4 barrel carburetor runs great and is the original engine. Dynaflow automatic transmission works fine and the shifting is seamless. You can not feel the shifting between gears, just like it was designed. Power steering and power brakes. This is nice unrestored rust free original car with 1 repaint many years ago.
71,036 original miles (113.658 km.). Nice interior with vinyl covers on the seats which I think were installed when the car was new. I think the original factory upholstery is fine underneath the seat covers. The door panels are in excellent original condition. The carpet is worn but useable. The headliner is very nice. All the glass is fine. The dash pad is fine but there is a crack in the padding on the glove box door (see photo). All the door open and close like they did new from the factory (see video). The AM original radio is still there. The trunk is in great shape with a spare tire and original jack. The paint is old but still nice with some flaws. Look close at the pictures. The chrome is nice but not new. The rear bumperettes are in the rear of the car and they are newly rechromed. The small piece of the right side sweep spear trim between the two doors is missing. A new correct style battery is installed.
This car is a super investment. I think it is the only one in Denmark. There are a few in Sweden and Germany, but not many. Hagarty.com lists the value of this model on 10th of September, 2023 as $59,000 in Good #3 condition. This car is at minimum Good condition. Excellent #2 condition is valued at $99.800 and #1 Concours condition at $119,000.Several restored 1958 Caballeros have sold in 2022 at USA auctions for well over $100,000.00.
The car came from a large collection which my friend bought. The current US title is from Pennsylvania issued in 2001. The car was bought in Dallas Texas and imported to Denmark in 2009 and has been kept in storage since then. The import duty and VAT is paid for any EU country.
This is a very special car that drives very nice and gets tons of attention. The 58 Buick are called “The King of Chrome”. I heard there are 635 pieces of chrome on the outside of this car, but I haven’t counted them…. 🙂
